Venus Flytrap - Dionaea muscipula 'Coquillage'

'Coquillage' is the French word for shell and this variety lives up to it. The traps only have tiny nubs for teeth. It's one of our favorite mutants. Chances are you’ve heard of this botanical wonder even if you are new to carnivorous plants. Native to the Carolinas, the Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is easy to grow outdoors or in a sunny windowsill in most of the USA. The Venus flytrap grows alongside other carnivores in boggy, open savannahs. For many years, misinformation spread that stated flytraps were hard to grow or required very stringent horticultural requirements. Fortunately, this couldn’t be farther from the truth! The Venus flytrap is a hardy plant, capable of being grown outdoors in nearly every state in the USA (some winter accommodation may be required for harsh northern winters and for desert summers). Our plants grow outside in the burning Texas sun year round and have even taken cold fronts down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter with no ill effects. Philodendron tortum

Philodendron tortum is one of the most bizarre species in the genus. Its leaves open up in a corkscrew fashion and are very elongated and thin with "branching". In nature, it grows as an epiphyte. It's really a must have for the collector. Like most Philodendrons, this variety prefers moist but well-draining soil and some humidity. As it climbs, it should be staked or allowed to climb up moss poles. In higher humidity environments, numerous aerial roots will form which gives the plants a beautiful look. The species prefers brighter light than most of the broad leafed Philodendrons. This product is considered an Intermediate Tropical plant.
