We start by infusing rosemary and nettles into olive oil because they are beneficial for your scalp, hair, and hair follicles. Then we add other beneficial ingredients designed to leave your hair clean, soft, and manageable. Unscented Shampoo Size This Standard Bagged Unscented Shampoo weighs between 4.0 and 4.8 oz. It measures approximately 3.5" x 1" x 2" and comes packaged in a labeled, draw-string cotton bag. Available Shampoo Sizes Each Unscented Shampoo bar is available in two sizes to suit your personal preferences. All soaps are weighed and meet the minimum weight six weeks after being made. As they continue to age and cure, they will last even longer although they may lose water weight, causing them to be slightly lighter. Unscented Shampoo bars are available in these sizes and packaging: Standard Shampoo Unscented in a Cotton Bag: Weighs 4 to 4.8 ounces and measures approximately 3.5" x 1" x 2". Packaged in a labeled, draw-string cotton bag. Travel Shampoo Unscented: Weighs 1 to 1.25 ounces and measures approximately 1" x 1" x 2". Nettle and rosemary are key to our Goat Milk Soap Shampoo Bars as they’re known for their ability to promote healthy hair growth. Plus we use nourishing oils and butters to help keep your hair healthy and soft. Here’s how they work: Nettle: Nettles are rich in antioxidants and polyphenols, handy ingredients that help to neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are unstable oxygen molecules that can cause damage and change to your cells, including hair cells, which can lead to hair thinning. Plus, nettle also dilates blood vessels which helps your hair follicle get more oxygen and nutrients through your bloodstream. In other words, nettle helps create healthy hair. Rosemary: We use rosemary in our Goat Milk Soap Shampoo Bars for a similar reason to nettle; it’s amazing for hair growth. It works similarly to nettle as well — rosemary helps with blood flow to ensure maximum oxygen and nutrients are supplied to your scalp. If you like to hear the science behind these handy ingredients, one study found rosemary oil was as effective as ‘Rogaine’ for helping boost hair growth. How to Use Goat Milk Soap Shampoo Bars Using a shampoo bar is super easy. After years of refining our recipe and method, we’ve created a few guidelines on the very best way to use our Goat Milk Soap Shampoo Bars depending on the length of your hair. Our top tip is to ensure you focus on cleaning your scalp rather than your hair strands for the cleanest, freshest locks. When using a Goat Milk Soap Shampoo Bar, you will get a gentle creamy lather, but it won’t foam like most store bought shampoos. And you don’t want it to! Most chemical-based shampoos available have a foaming agent added to them, so they get really foamy. This foam doesn’t help clean or nourish your hair, so it’s not very useful. Don’t look to replicate it with your goat milk soap shampoo bar. The lather you create will be a more subtle one, which is still super effective at cleaning and clarifying your hair and scalp. Using too much of the Goat Milk Soap Shampoo Bar can leave your hair feeling heavy and sticky. You don’t need a whole lot to get the job done. Start by using less, because you can always use more later. If you've never used a shampoo bar before, it may take a little while (a couple of days to a couple of weeks) for your hair to adjust. The trick to successfully using the goat milk soap shampoo bar is not to use too much. Try to remember that you are just trying to clean your scalp. You are not trying to produce a lather like you get with commercial store-bought shampoos that use foaming agents. People use the shampoo bar differently - some people prefer to rub it right on their hair while others prefer to lather it in their hands first. So experiment to see which you prefer. Using Goat Milk Solid Shampoo is one of the simplest ways to take incredible care of the health of your hair and scalp. Conditioning Through the Transition Period While most of our customers find they don’t need a conditioner after using our Goat Milk Soap Shampoo, some do email us and ask what we recommend as a natural conditioner as they go through the transition process of switching to a natural shampoo. Our family has been using the shampoo bar for years and never needed a conditioner during our original transition period but one of our customers kindly shared what worked for her. We’ve since shared this recipe with others and it seems to work well for them. Mix together: 1 TBSP unrefined coconut oil, 1 TBSP raw honey, and ½ tsp ground cinnamon. Wash hair as normal with Goat Milk Soap Shampoo. Rinse well. Massage 1 teaspoon of the mixture into your scalp and through your hair. (Depending on the length and thickness of your hair, you may need to use more or less than 1 teaspoon.) Let sit on your hair for about a minute or two, then rinse well. The customer who shared this recipe with us did not experience any buildup on her comb and told us that combing her hair was very easy. She let us know that it worked well as a conditioner, removed the “waxy” feeling from her hair she experienced during the transition process, brought the shine back to her hair and both her hair and scalp look and feel healthy. She did not experience any extra oily-ness after using this mixture, but depending on the length and thickness of your hair, you may need to adjust the amount of the mixture you try. This recipe is not recommended for daily use but if you love it, it can be used as a weekly treatment. Goat Milk Shampoo for Color-Treated Hair If you have color treated hair, you need to test the shampoo. We have customers who use it successfully on their color-treated hair, while other customers find it removes the color. Inexpensive home color treatments seem to have the most problems. It may also improve how long your color lasts. One customer did tell us: "I love the shampoo soap for my hair, helps to keep my colored hair from turning gray for a few weeks longer!" What does ‘Unscented’ Truly Mean? The unscented soap varieties smell like soap, yet do not have any added scents or fragrances (including essential oils!) to reduce the risk of irritation. Unscented soap does still have a smell because the ingredients used in soap production contain natural scents that we do not chemically remove. For example, coconut oil smells like coconut oil, milk smells like milk, and unscented soap smells like unscented soap. If you are hyper-sensitive to scents in general, start with a smaller sized bar to make sure the pure soap smell itself is not irritating. Please be aware that we make many scented products in our Soaproom. While there is no added scent to the Shampoo Unscented Goat Milk Soap itself, when you receive your soap you may be able to smell scents on the exterior of your soap and the packaging it arrives in. If you are extremely sensitive to scent, you can remove the packaging and even wash with the soap once to remove any scent that may have settled out of the air onto your soap. We would love to someday have a separate building dedicated to unscented products and packaging, but unfortunately, we don't have that ability at present.
