Essiac Blend - Loose Leaf Botanical Essiac Tea is a blend of four traditional herbs (burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery elm bark, rhubarb root) that has been used to promote overall health. These potent herbs have an earthy taste and are used to make teas and tinctures. Essiac tea can be traced back to the Ojibwa tribe of Canada, but was popularized and brought into homes by a nurse named Rene Caisse in the 1920s. This famous herbal blend has high flavonoid and polyphenol content; these antioxidants may help the body to defend itself from oxidative stressors. While Essiac is often purported as a health tonic for specific conditions, we suggest using this classic tea for overall wellness support.Traditional preparation of Loose Leaf Essiac Tea: Boil one gallon of fresh water in a stainless steel pot. Add 4 oz of tea (by weight) and cover. Boil for 10 minutes. Remove tea from heat and stir. Cover brew, and let rest for 12 hours at room temperature. Stir, cover and bring the tea to a boil once more. Once tea has come to a boil, remove from heat. Strain tea through a fine mesh sieve. Place into glass containers for storage. Refrigerate brew. Essiac tea will stay fresh for 2-3 weeks if refrigerated. Daily Serving Instructions: Shake tea to mix well. Add 2 oz of tea to equal amounts of boiled water.
