In 1993 vierde Asics de lancering van de Gel Kayano-serie, genoemd naar de ontwerper Toshikazu Kayano. In 2020 lanceerde Asics de 27e versie! Met de Gel-Kayano 13 beëindigde Toshikazu Kayano zijn werk aan de Gel-Kayano-reeks en droeg hij de verantwoordelijkheid over aan nieuwe ontwerpers. Op dat moment kon Kayano zich zijn schoenen niet voorstellen buiten de hardloopbaan, maar toch voelt hij zich gevleid dat de retros van zijn hardloopschoenenreeks zich nu stevig hebben gevestigd in het lifestyle segment. De Gel-Kayano 14, de eerste "niet-Toshikazu" Kayano, vormt een mijlpaal in de geschiedenis van de Gel-Kayano serie. De nieuwe editie behoudt de tussenzooluitrusting en de GEL dempingstechnologie van het origineel. De pasvorm is licht aangepast. Asics vangt de geest van vandaag met deze release.
