Clown Killifish AKA Rocket Killifish (Epiplatys annulatus), Tank-Bred

Clown Killifish AKA Rocket Killifish (Epiplatys annulatus), Tank-Bred

* For the safety of our animals, we now ship live fish exclusively via UPS 1 Day Air.  If your order contains this item, you will only see UPS 1 Day Air as a shipping option during checkout *   This small killifish boasts incredible coloration, especially in males, and is ideal for the nano or planted aquarium! The Clown Killifish (Epiplatys annulatus) is an extremely colorful, peaceful fish whose small size makes it absolutely perfect for the nano or planted aquarium. Native to stagnant swamps and slow-moving streams in Western Africa, this fish is excellent for aquariums with very low water flow or, under the correct maintenance schedule, no water flow at all.   The Clown Killifish occupies the top level of the water column almost exclusively.  It is not afraid to jump, so it must be kept in an aquarium with either a lid/hood/canopy or at least a significantly lowered water level. It will not eat or bother plants and it will appreciate the cover, especially with floating plants. The Clown Killifish is possibly compatible with other peaceful fish and invertebrate species that thrive in low water flow, but only if those species will not outcompete the Clown Killifish for food. Also, other fish species will eat most of the fry of the Clown Killifish when spawning occurs, so other tankmate species are not recommended if breeding is desired. While many killifish are kept in pairs, the Clown Killifish seems to thrive and show the best coloration in groups. The Clown Killifish is not as versatile as many other aquarium fish when it comes to feeding habits. It is a micropredator and it feeds at the top of the water.  It may ignore floating dry foods, but such foods are not an ideal food even if accepted by the Clown Killifish. Appropriately sized frozen foods such as Tubifex, Daphnia, and Artemia will usually be accepted, and bloodworms can also be used if chopped to a manageable size. Live foods are the absolute best food for the Clown Killifish, and it will gladly accept fruit flies and live specimens of the aforementioned frozen foods.      What We Like About This Fish: Beautiful coloration and small size Peaceful disposition with fish and peaceful invertebrates Easy to breed in the aquarium Excellent for inhabiting the top of the aquarium     RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS: Temperature: 68° - 79° F (20° - 26° C) pH: 4.0 - 7.0 KH: 4 - 8 dKH Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons CARE INFORMATION:  Diet:  Carnivorous.  Requires appropriately sized meaty live and frozen foods. Social Behavior: Peaceful, schooling/shoaling.   Origin: Tank-bred, but indigenous to Western Africa Average Adult Size: 1.2 - 1.4 inches (3 - 3.5 cm) Average Purchase Size: .25 - .8 inch (.6 - 2 cm)   All Aquatic Arts brand plants and animals come with a 100% live arrival guarantee, plus free email support!

Assassin Snails (Clea helena)

Assassin Snails (Clea helena)

Assassin Snails (Clea helena) are one of the most useful animals in the aquarium hobby. ⚠️ Important Legal Note: All aquatic invertebrates are prohibited to possess in any form or sell in the state of Maine. Please check your local regulations before purchasing. We are unable to ship livestock from this listing to Maine. If you reside in Maine and try to checkout with this in your cart you will be unable to checkout and receive an error message until it is removed from the cart. They will obliterate unwanted pest snails and eliminate the need to use harsh, snail-killing chemicals in your aquarium. They are particularly adept at handling populations of pond snails, Malaysian trumpet snails, ramshorn snails, bladder snails, and more! To demonstrate an example of the Assassin Snail's prowess, we have kept a 30 gallon tank that was completely overrun with about 200 unwanted pest snails, and a crew of 15 "assassins" demolished them within a couple of weeks. They eat all other types of snails that are their size or smaller, but they will not harm snails that are larger (such as Mystery Snails, Giant Sulawesi Snails, and larger Nerite Snails). However, large groups of Assassin Snails have been known to gang up on a larger snail and take it down, so caution should be exercised when keeping these, even with larger snails. They are safe to keep with fish, most invertebrates, live plants, and other aquarium inhabitants because their preferred meal are snails. But some caution needs to be taken when housing them with dwarf shrimp. There is a slight risk of an assassin snail eating a dwarf shrimp from time to time. They would much prefer to eat snails, but if given the opportunity there is a chance they could get a shrimp. So caution must be used when housing with other snails and dwarf shrimp. As an added bonus, Assassin Snails are rather attractive in appearance. Due to their yellow and black/dark brown striping, they look fantastic on both light and dark-colored substrates. Their shells are spiral-shaped and taper down to a point at the end. Their bodies are an iridescent, almost translucent white color and consist of a long Proboscis (a sucking mouthpart, similar to a nose) that they use to drag themselves around, as well as two eyes underneath two tentacles. We ship younger Assassin Snails that are about 1/4 to 1 inch in length, and they will grow to about 1 inch long as adults. Having good substrate is important with Assassin Snails, as they love to burrow in it; we recommend sand. As with all snails, these are very sensitive to copper, so we advise monitoring copper levels if tap water is used to fill the tank. What We Like About These Snails: Obliterate pest snails Attractive striped coloration Safe with plants Does not bother most tankmates other than snails Recommended Tank Parameters: Temperature: 68° - 75° F (20° - 24° C) pH: 6.5 - 8.0 KH: 2 - 15 dKH Minimum Tank Size: 2 gallons per snail Assassin Snail Care Guidelines: Diet: Carnivorous. Voraciously eats other snails and will often eat dead fish. If there are not enough small snails in the aquarium, their diet can be supplemented with fish flakes, blood worms, and other meaty foods. Social Behavior: Attacks other snails, but otherwise peaceful. Origin: Indonesia Average Adult Size: 1 inch (2.5 cm) Average Purchase Size: .25 - 1 inch (.6 - 2.5 cm) All Aquatic Arts brand plants and animals come with a 100% live arrival guarantee, plus free email support!

B-Grade Nerite Snails - Assorted Species, Colors, and Patterns!

B-Grade Nerite Snails - Assorted Species, Colors, and Patterns!

Liven up your aquarium on a budget with an assortment of nerite snails! This listing is for B-grade Nerite Snails, meaning that the snails may have minor shell damage or calcification, but are otherwise perfectly healthy. We will do our best to send an assortment of shell patterns; we unfortunately cannot accept requests for certain types of Nerites. These beautiful snails are great for giving your aquarium some exotic flair, but they also serve some very useful purposes. They clean algae off of glass, plants, and decorations, they eat hair algae, and they keep your substrate clean. Nerite Snails are widely believed to be the best snail in the aquarium hobby for eating algae. They are totally safe with any fish, shrimp, or plants, and are completely peaceful. Nerite Snails require salt water to reproduce, so they will never overpopulate your aquarium (as some freshwater snails are known to do). Your order will include a random assortment chosen from the many nerite snail species that we have in stock! These Nerite Snails range from 1/2 to 1 inch in diameter. They usually will remain around 1 inch throughout their lifespan, but the occasional snail will reach 1 1/2 inches! They do not eat plants (only algae), so they are perfectly suitable for planted tanks. When keeping any type of Nerite Snails, it's a good idea to make sure the water line in your aquarium isn't too high, as these snails tend to climb up beyond the water line. Additionally, Nerite Snails do not tolerate water with high nitrate levels. All freshwater snails are very sensitive to copper, so watch out for copper if you use tap water in your tank. What We Like About These Snails: Among the most voracious algae-eating snails Do not reproduce in freshwater Safe with plants Completely peaceful RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS: Temperature: 65° - 85° F (18° - 29° C) pH: 6.5 - 8.0 KH: 5 - 12 dKH Minimum tank size: 2 gallons per snail CARE GUIDELINES: Diet: Nerite Snails can subsist on algae if there is enough present in the aquarium. Their diet can be supplemented with algae wafers and/or blanched vegetables such as zucchini, kale, spinach, or cucumber. Social behavior: Peaceful and solitary; will not engage with tankmates. Origin: Northeast/East/South Africa (Zebra Nerite), India, Indo-Pacific (Tiger Nerite), Indo-Pacific (Sun Thorn, Zebra Thorn Nerite), Indo-Pacific, India, Africa (Black Racer Nerite), North/Central/South American Gulf Coast (Tiger Eye Nerite) Average adult size: .25 - 1.5 inches (.6 - 3.8 cm) Average purchase size: .25 - 1 inch (.6 - 2.5 cm) All Aquatic Arts brand plants and animals come with a 100% live arrival guarantee, plus free email support!

Striped Kuhli Loach (Pangio semicincta/kuhlii)

Striped Kuhli Loach (Pangio semicincta/kuhlii)

* For the safety of our animals, we now ship live fish exclusively via UPS Next Day Air.  If your order contains this item, you will only see UPS Next Day Air as a shipping option during checkout *    The eel-like, peaceful Kuhli Loach is one of the most unique and fascinating loaches! This fish really does prefer to be in a group of at least six so the three quantity option is really only to add to an existing group. The Kuhli Loach (Pangio kuhlii/semicincta), also known as the Coolie Loach, is a longtime favorite for the community and planted aquarium. This peaceful fish is very distinctive for its eel-like body, which is a brown to burgundy color covered with bright orange stripes. Native to Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo (and possibly other nearby areas), the Kuhli Loach has become less available in recent years. The possible reason for this is that many importers of this fish have not understood or provided proper care, thus making healthy specimens scarce. Aquatic Arts quarantines all of our Kuhli Loaches before sale, as does our supplier for these magnificent fish! The Kuhli Loach is a relatively undemanding fish, provided that a few specific needs are met. This fish is generally native to rivers and streams of low water flow. The pH of these waterways can be excessively acidic due to a great deal of dead leaves and other decaying plant matter. While the Kuhli Loach can acclimate to neutral or slightly alkaline water over time, it should at first be kept in acidic water under that is less than 7.0 pH. This shy fish can be sensitive during shipping and when initially introduced to a new tank. It must be provided with a great deal of cover and refuge in order to feel secure. It also must be kept in groups of at least 6 or more. As with most fish, it also requires a clean, well-maintained aquarium. The Kuhli Loach is typically an unfussy eater that will accept most sinking foods, but it should also be offered live or frozen foods of appropriate size. It will maintain its best health and coloration with a varied diet of high-quality meaty foods.    What We Like About This Fish: Resembles a tiny eel in appearance and motion Highly unique freshwater specimen Safe with plants Completely peaceful RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS:  Temperature:  70° - 79° F (21° - 26° C) pH:  5.5 - 7.0 KH:  2 - 10 dKH Minimum tank size:  20 gallons CARE GUIDELINES: Diet:  Scavenger/Micropredator.  Prefers sinking pellets, but will also accept most flake foods and algae wafers, and should also be provided with live/frozen foods such as freeze-dried daphnia, bloodworms, tubifex, etc. Social behavior:  Peaceful. Must be kept in groups of 6 or more. Origin:  Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Java, Borneo, Sumatra Average adult size:  3 - 4 inches (7.6 to 10 cm) Average purchase size:  2 - 3 inches (5 - 7.6 cm)  All Aquatic Arts brand plants and animals come with a 100% live arrival guarantee, plus free email support!

Platinum Orange Flash Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid (Apistogramma cacatuoides) - TANK-BRED!

Platinum Orange Flash Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid (Apistogramma cacatuoides) - TANK-BRED!

* For the safety of our animals, we now ship live fish exclusively via UPS Next Day Air. If your order contains this item, you will only see UPS Next Day Air as a shipping option during checkout * The Platinum Orange Flash Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid is a remarkable variant that has a clean white-gold body and striking orange fins in males! The Platinum Orange Flash Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid (Apistogramma cacatuoides) is a variant of one of the most beautifully colored and most popular dwarf cichlids in the freshwater aquarium hobby. Males are particularly colorful, boasting incredible bright orange coloration on the ample dorsal fin as well as the tail. The body is white-gold. As with most dwarf cichlids, females are less colorful, but still have an attractive appearance and plenty of personality. The Platinum Orange Flash Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid will thrive in an aquarium with a sandy substrate and plenty of refuge such as clay pots, driftwood, and rock formations. It is an excellent candidate for the planted aquarium, but it also needs a fair amount of open space. This cichlid is generally compatible with other peaceful fish as long as it has plenty of space. Territoriality is typically at its peak during spawning. Dwarf shrimp and other small, delicate invertebrates should not be kept with the Platinum Orange Flash Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid, but more durable, larger shrimp and snails could possibly make good tankmates in a large enough aquarium. If spawning is desired, tankmates of other species should be kept to a minimum or avoided altogether. Feeding is simple for the unfussy Platinum Orange Flash Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid. High-quality dry, frozen, and live meaty foods will all be readily accepted. Quality and variety are the keys to a diet that will ensure that this fish maintains optimal health and coloration. We are currently offering sexed young adult specimens of this magnificent species. They are displaying very good coloration, but their color will be even more vibrant as they mature further! What We Like About This Fish: Beautiful white-gold body coloration with very bright orange coloration on the dorsal and caudal fins Hardy with plenty of personality Possible to breed in the aquarium Compatible with many other species in a spacious tank RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS: Temperature: 72° - 84° F (22° - 29° C) pH: 6.0 - 7.0, tank-raised specimens are more flexible regarding pH level KH: 2 – 15 KH Minimum tank size: 20 gallons for a pair, but a larger tank is required for a group CARE GUIDELINES: Diet: Carnivorous. A variety of high-quality dry, frozen, and live meaty foods is necessary for optimal health and coloration. Social behavior: Congregates loosely in groups. Males can be territorial when attempting to spawn and females are very protective of their eggs during spawning. Origin: Tank-bred, but indigenous to South America Average adult size: 3 inches (7.5 cm) for males, 2 inches (5 cm) for females Average purchase size: 1 – 1.5 inches (2.5 – 3.8 cm) All Aquatic Arts brand plants and animals come with a 100% live arrival guarantee, plus free email support!

Gold Medaka Ricefish aka Japanese Ricefish/Killifish (Oryzias latipes "Gold") - Tank-Bred!

Gold Medaka Ricefish aka Japanese Ricefish/Killifish (Oryzias latipes "Gold") - Tank-Bred!

* For the safety of our animals, we now ship live fish exclusively via UPS Next Day Air. If your order contains this item, you will only see UPS Next Day Air as a shipping option during checkout * The Gold Medaka Ricefish is a super hardy and adaptable species that boasts vibrant yellow, orange, and red-orange hues! The Gold Medaka Ricefish (Oryzias latipes “Gold”), also known as the Japanese Ricefish or Japanese Killifish, is an extraordinarily adaptable fish species. This schooling fish can be the highlight in any peaceful community aquarium and it is a particular standout in the planted aquarium. There seems to be some debate as to whether it should be considered part of the killifish family since it behaves similarly, but is not closely related to most other killifish. This mostly subtropical fish can freely inhabit all salinities of water, from freshwater to fully marine water. The Gold Medaka Ricefish typically occupies the middle and top level of the water column. It is safe with other peaceful, small fish. Due to its small size, it can be viewed as similar to microrasboras and blue-eye rainbowfish as far as its compatibility with dwarf shrimp. Larger, peaceful invertebrates can also make good tankmates. When keeping the Gold Medaka Ricefish with dwarf shrimp, plenty of plants and cover are recommended. It is also best to introduce the dwarf shrimp to the aquarium before introducing the Gold Medaka Ricefish. The Gold Medaka Ricefish must be kept in schools of 6 or more. Not only will it display its best natural behavior and coloration in large schools, but it will also pay little attention to other species. This tank-raised fish is very hardy and adaptable, but it requires clean, well-maintained water to thrive and it will display optimal coloration and health in a planted aquarium with dark substrate, especially where floating plants are present. As long as it has plenty of cover, it is an extremely outgoing species. It is very easy to breed in the aquarium. It has the ability to jump, so a secure aquarium lid is necessary. While not a picky eater, the Gold Medaka Ricefish will thrive and remain very colorful on a varied diet of mostly omnivorous foods. High-quality flake food, pellets, and live, frozen, or freeze-dried Artemia, microworms, Tubifex, and finely chopped bloodworms will all be readily accepted. However, the Gold Medaka Ricefish also requires some vegetable matter in its diet. It will not bother aquarium plants. What We Like About This Fish: Vibrant yellow to orange coloration Peaceful disposition with fish and peaceful invertebrates Very active and noticeable fish in any aquarium Ideal for nano and planted aquariums Very rare and hardy RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS: Temperature: 64° - 75° F (18° - 24° C), although it is reported to at least temporarily tolerate an extremely wide temperature range of 44° - 104° F (6.7° - 40° C) pH: 7.0 – 8.0 KH: 9 - 19 dGH Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons for a school, although a larger aquarium is more optimal CARE INFORMATION: Diet: Omnivore. Will easily accept high quality dry and frozen foods of appropriate size. Vegetable matter is also essential. Social Behavior: Peaceful, schooling/shoaling. Origin: Tank-bred, but indigenous to Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea, and Vietnam Average Adult Size: 1.6 inches (4 cm) Average Purchase Size: .5 – 1 inch (1.3 – 2.5 cm) All Aquatic Arts brand plants and animals come with a 100% live arrival guarantee, plus free email support!

Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes), Regular and Jumbo

Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes), Regular and Jumbo

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot ship this plant to Alabama, California, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, or Wisconsin. Due to its potential to become an invasive plant, this plant must never be introduced to US native waterways. Water Lettuce is a very popular and durable floating plant with exceptional denitrification and water clarifying qualities for both ponds and aquariums! (All of our floating plants are grown at an outdoor nursery, there is a chance of duckweed being in any floating plant package) Water Lettuce (Pistia statiotes), also known as Water Cabbage, is a floating plant that is believed to be native to Africa, but has been introduced to many waterways throughout the world. At a maximum width of 8-10 inches (20-25 cm), it is much larger than many other floating plants, so it is an excellent option for providing shade and cover for more reclusive species. Its leaves are substantial and will float at the water's surface, which can also be very useful for small semi-aquatic animals in terrariums and paludariums. Water Lettuce has remarkable denitrification and water clarification abilities, so it is very useful in helping to keep water clean. Care is moderate for Water Lettuce. Since it is a floating plant, it does not require planting in the substrate and only its underside should be wet. It can be extremely prolific in ponds, but is generally slower to propagate in the aquarium. It is typically grown in areas of at least partial shade, so it should be acclimated to higher light very slowly in the aquarium. If it is exposed to high light too quickly, its leaves will yellow with damage. When it is thriving, Water Lettuce can easily overrun an aquarium or pond, so some plants will need to be removed as they multiply or else they will prevent gas exchange and light penetration. It requires relatively still water with very little movement, so it should not be placed in the current of filter outflow. It does not typically overwinter or tolerate cold temperatures. Like most plants, Water Lettuce will benefit from supplementation such as Seachem Flourish, Flourish Excel, nitrogen, iron, and other plant supplements. No aquarium plant distributor/nursery/wholesaler/retailer can or will guarantee their plants to be 100% snail free. We cannot guarantee our plants will be snail free. We currently offer this plant in two width sizes: Regular: 1+ inches (2.5+ cm) Jumbo: 6 - 8+ inches (15 - 20 cm) What We Like About This Plant: Large floating plant that is ideal for providing shade and refuge Excellent plant for denitrification Very easy to propagate Provides great cover for animal fry Hardy and durable Care Guidelines: Temperature: 66° - 80° F (19° - 27° C) pH: 6.5 - 7.2 Lighting: Moderate to High, Partial to Full Shade in ponds Origin: Nursery grown, but indigenous to Africa Aquarium placement: Floating Care: Moderate US Pond Hardiness Zones: 9-11 All Aquatic Arts brand plants and animals come with a 100% live arrival guarantee, plus free email support!

While AquaticArts demonstrates commitment to ethical breeding practices and maintains good animal welfare standards, there's limited transparency regarding their overall environmental impact and energy usage. They use sustainable packaging but could improve their documentation of supply chain practices. Their focus on captive-bred specimens is positive, but more detailed reporting on facility operations and conservation efforts would be beneficial.
